Mondays get a bad rap—and for good reason. It’s the start of the work week, and for many people it feels like you’re at the bottom of Mount Everest looking up. There’s email to catch up on, projects that you hoped would magically disappear over the weekend (but sadly didn’t), and meetings that cut into precious productivity time.

So when a manager starts a new employee on a Monday, it creates yet another burden. Existing employees need to set aside time to train and orient the new person while their existing tasks and projects continue to pile up.

Maybe it’s time to rethink starting new hires on Mondays?

Well, according to this Fast Company article, Why This Tech Company Starts New Hires On Fridays (And Why You Should, Too), one company is already one step ahead of us. Social media marketing agency Spredfast starts new employees on Fridays, and they’ve seen some remarkable results.

“When you’re starting someone new at your company, you want an atmosphere with less chaos,” said Spredfast’s vice president of talent and development, Sam Baber. And after spending 18 years as a human resources professional, Baber would know. He began the company’s new-hires-start-on-Fridays initiative two years ago, and it’s resulted in several noteworthy positives. Overall, the company is now experiencing:

  • A less stressed-out team
  • New hires actually come in fresher on Fridays
  • Higher employee motivation levels
  • The disintegration of siloed departments
  • Renewed strength in company culture

Sound like a good idea? We thought so, too.

If you’re in the market for a new addition to the team, let us know. We can give this radical approach a test drive and start your marketing consultant or employee on a Friday. We’d love to hear how it goes!
